I just finished and have absolutely loved reading “Run Baby Run” by Nicky Cruz. The first half of the book is so, so dark. Literally, as you read it you are thinking, this guy is in too deep, how could he ever experience any light, any hope? I actually read the whole first half of the book, not having any clue that he was at all related to David Wilkerson and “The Cross and the Switchblade”. When Nicky first has his encounter with Christ, I was literally overjoyed and said “Wow” and “Thank God”! I loved the book for several reasons, but the biggest one being that it is so raw in its sincerity and honesty. I also identify with the feelings that Nicky experienced in the last few chapters, that even sometimes when you are serving God faithfully, it still feels like something is missing and there is more out there to experience. I can't explain that other than to just identify with it.
This book has quickly moved up the list to another all-time favorite!
Billy Graham says it best in his endorsement of of the book:
The story of Nicky Cruz is remarkable. It has all the elements of tragedy, violence and intrigue, plus the greatest ingredient of all: the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
